The new Prairie Mountain Bakery is now open in Hat Creek. This one of a kind bakery features bakes good with a Spanish flavour. Their specialty is fresh fruit Empanadas! You can find these empanadas served at Henry’s Cafe too!

The CKUA Radio Network was founded in 1927 in Edmonton, Alberta. CKUA is Canada’s first educational broadcaster and Canada’s first public broadcaster. Since its inception, CKUA has grown from a one room, low wattage radio station staffed by exceptionally dedicated amateur radio enthusiasts, into a full fledged radio and Internet broadcast network staffed by world class broadcast and business professionals. During Pledge Drives on CKUA, everyone in Hat Creek collects bottles and cans along the road to donate to CKUA. Do your part in Hat Creek and keep tossing those bottles and can  along the gravel road and near the town bridge!  Toss them where we can easily collect them and keep CKUA on the air.

In an attempt to inspire people to take action on climate change, the Friends of Hat Creek joined with others around the world and turned off all the lights in Hat Creek, Alberta for one hour on March 29, 3008. All the lights, radios and even the television were turned off in support of Earth Hour 2008. It might have seemed like it was a small thing but the Friends of Hat Creek were encouraged by their action to reduce their human footprint and make a difference by being in the dark one more time.

Again this year, Hat Creek Harvey did not see his shadow and so , we can expect an early spring in Alberta and on the Northern Range.

Hat Creek, Alberta is on the Northern Range. It is a town where the time between the going down of the sun & the coming of sleep belongs to the tellers of stories and lies. Hat Creek is a place that time has truly forgotten. Hat Creek is incorporated under Alberta Provincial Laws but somehow was omitted from maps as a result of errors made by the first surveyors through the northern range. It was the Simon Coleman Survey of 1907 that completely omitted a 50 square mile area on the northern range. This included Hat Creek. And, then in 1933, the Alberta Legislature proposed that the province try to recover the lost area. However, it never actually happened. Since that time, Hat Creek’s main industry appears to be speculation and hope of things to come. Even the railroad bypassed the town of Hat Creek. And today, Hat Creek has no postal code. The town of Hat Creek, Alberta can be found nestled in the foothills where the prairies meet the Rocky Mountains on the northern range. Looking east you can see forever as the rolling prairies disappear gently into the big Alberta sky. If you look to the west you will see the prairies meet the mountains and rise with greatness and touch the blue Alberta sky.
